Connection, Balance, Entropy
Beyond fashion is a show that is hosted every year by the Vignelli center archive. Designers are invited to create collections based on a prompt related to the Vignellis’ design philosophy.
This year, the prompt was The Grid. My group made three looks based on the idea of a strict grid breaking down over time. We came up with 3 words to design around: connection, balance, and entropy

SWEATER PROGRESS
Material Exploration
The sweater was knit in four panels over many hours using cut strips of old lace tablecloth and linen yarn together in a pattern designed to look like the material is rotting away.
I managed to dye the jacket using natural cabbage dye, adjusting the color with baking soda and vinegar to get the desired shade.

Final Pieces
The drying process of the jacket created a strange mottled lilac and teal color, far from the intended dark purple.
The purple and grey skirt was the original, but after dying the jacket, it became clear that the materials and colors clashed too much to work and I was forced to remake the pattern with different material
